First of all, thanks to all the folks who came out to the farm on
Saturday. It was great to meet new members and see some familiar
faces. We’re glad you took the chance to put your feet on the
ground were your veggies come from.
The news from the farm this week is all about greens. Unfortunately,
we’ve seen the end of lettuce for a while, a few weeks anyway.
While we seed lettuce every week, we had some hot temperatures, which
led to poor germination rates. We just can’t squeeze anymore out
of the fields. So if you feel you’ve had salads coming out your
ears, here’s a breather.
We’ll have plenty of green in the share. This week we’re
harvesting braising mix. This is a mixture of mostly Asian greens
that are great steamed or sautéed. Dan spent his Sunday morning direct
seeding spinach. So we should be seeing that in your share soon,
too.
New in this weeks share are celery and leeks! Also this week more squash, peppers, tomatoes and cukes.
